The Central Market area is a good choice if you want discover the real Phnom Penh. Bustling and vibrant staying there will make you feel like real cambodian

Don’t go to sisowath quay ! This is “red district” of Phnom Penh, you’ll only find prostitution and noise ! I don’t reommend this area at all. Otherwise the other areas are fine.
Not only, this is the northern part of the neighborhood which is like that

I would recommend to visit the russian market neighbourhood (toul tom pong area) where you will find a lot of nice restaurants and the russian market full of treasures for tourists!!

if you want your hotel on some leafy boulevard with designer shops and high end eateries then this is probably not for you. If on the other hand you want to experience the sounds, sights and smells of this vibrant city then look no further than Riverside !

Enjoyed our time on Sisowath Quay. Nice walk along waterfront. Ate dinner a couple times along the quay (Indian food). Lots of places with 75 cents draft beer (basically from noon to 10 pm). Some places offer 50 Cent or $1 draft beer. Check out the famous Foreign Correspondence Club – happy hour 5 to 7 pm. Great view. Lots of great pictures from journalists, brings back memories of journalists from “The Killing Fields”

This is where it all happens in Phnom Penh. Stroll along the shop-front side and find a restaurant (which is what most of the buildings are) and dodge tuk-tuks, motorbikes, vendors of all kinds, and the occasional beggar or drug-dealer!
Stroll along the riverside for a slightly-less manic walk, but still expect people to try and sell you stuff or offer you a ride. Just be careful when you cross the road!!!
It’s worth it for a beer and a quality dinner that will cost just a few dollars…

Sisowath Quay is one of the nicest parts of Phnom Penh. It is a riverside promenade along the Tonle Sap, lined with flags and also exercise equipment. It is a great place for a stroll. Cambodian life is alive here. In the early mornings it is ladies doing exercise. In the evenings it is families strolling and children playing. During our time in Phnom Penh, it also had a nice breeze that cut the humidity. Across the actual street called Sisowath Quay are dozens of hotels and restaurants that have sidewalk seating. This area is one of Phnom Penh’s best

I don’t agree with this. You’ll find trash everywhere, smell of rotting garbage and urine and poorly maintained walkways that present significant hazards. It appears there was an original grand design that was never maintained. Currently a terrible display of what should be a national treasure

Sisowath Quay is a beautiful place to enjoy the view of the river but gets very crowded with locals and Street vendors at night. Plenty of Street vendors make this quay dirty. Also saw plenty of prostitution going on. We didn’t bother it as myself and my husband walked close to the water and just enjoyed the waterfront.
Early Mornings are nice with locals taking a walk.

I love the central market area. Within walking distance of the river and places of interest. I will stay here again next time I’m in P.P. because it is a fresh place to stay amidst the real day to day life of Phnom Penh and its people.

You should definitely stay near the independence monument. This is where you will find the finest eateries and bars. This area is very convenient due to its central position in the city. Moreover it’s not super busy like riverside.

We stayed in the Tuol Sleng Area and we were disappointed. No eateries and nothing do except the Genocide Museum but fortunately it doesn’t take that long to go to the other places of the city by tuktuk.

Stay near the independance monument in BKK1. This is the cleanest and the most charming place to stay. You’ll find cosy restaurants and expats bars there and you won’t be bothered by night working girls there 😌
